New York Philharmonic: A Bach Christmas
Have yourself a merry little Christmas with the first three cantatas of Bach's Christmas Oratorio, first performed to celebrate the onset of the jolly season in Leipzig in 1734. It's a narrative extravaganza used by the composer to tell the story of the Nativity through the eyes of St Luke and St Matthew, performed in elegant baroque style. Georg Christoph Biller conducts the orchestra and the Tomanerchor Leipzig, the resident choir from the St Thomas Church in the city the piece was first performed.
