Bagels & Grits: Exploring Jewish Life in the Deep South
The rich history of Jews in the American South is often overlooked. Tulane University now houses an extensive archive that has a strong relationship with the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience in Jackson, Mississippi. The Tulane collection's small exhibition offers a fascinating display of photos, artefacts and papers including a letter by Judah Benjamin, a Jew who served as the Confederacy's Secretary of War, which shares space with a daring literary journal (The Double Dealer) published by Jewish intellectuals in 1920s New Orleans.
