Illusions of Eden: Art from the American Midwest

The Museum of Modern Art welcomes a splendid itinerant exhibition of painting, prints and photography from the American Midwest between the world wars, juxtaposed with four installations by contemporary Midwestern artists. The latter focus on concepts associated with this quintessential part of the States - home, garden, journey, word and work - all of which contextualize the work of great midwestern painters such as Grant Wood whose famous canvas 'American Gothic' (1930) is among the work on show. Rarely have these historical views of the American heartlands been seen together.
